The Shelter Year in Review

2008 was a good and productive year for HSHP.  Many repairs and improvements were made to the shelter to make the animals in our care more comfortable and safe.  The kennel floors were completely resurfaced and 32 new outside cages were added to the backyard so that our dogs could enjoy more time outside in the fresh air.  We also added a new member to our shelter family in January 2008.  Her name is Maddie and she is an orange tabby cat.  She is sassy, opinionated, and gives us all a reason to smile each and every day.
In 2008, 1090 dogs and cats were cared for in our facility
401 dogs and 180 cats were adopted into new homes
246 dogs and 29 cats were cared for and returned to their owners
53 animals were sent to breed specific rescues or transferred to other shelters for adoption

We are looking forward to 2009.  We would like to see improvements to our cat room this year.  This could include creating larger cage areas to provide them with more room for exercise and comfort during their stay at the shelter.

As always we hope for another successful year in helping homeless pets find their forever homes. Our staff and management will continue to be dedicated to the animals we care for each day.  They are truly the heart and soul of our organization.

Please take some time to stop by and visit the shelter, whether you are looking for a new family member or just wanting to put a bright spot in a lonely pet’s day.  You are always welcome and the animals love the attention.

See you soon,
